In the world of magic, the power and future of a magician is determined from birth based on something called "signs": 4 signs that categorize human talent in magic. A very skilled sage, despite having a sign that was unsuitable for combat and only good for strengthening magic, decided to be reborn thousands of years later. He is reborn as Matthias Hildesheimer - a 6-year-old boy and the third child of a duke family - and obtains the combat proximity sign he had always wanted. However, he realizes that human knowledge of magic has largely disappeared.
